Signs Your Drains Need Help

A slow drain today can be a backup tomorrow.

Slow Drains

Water that sits in the sink or tub usually means a clog is starting to form.

Gurgling Sounds

Gurgling or bubbling as water drains means air is trapped behind a blockage.

Bad Smells

Sewer odors from a drain can point to buildup or a problem farther down the line.

Repeat Clogs

If the same drain keeps clogging, the real problem hasn’t been cleared yet.

Multiple Backups

When more than one drain backs up at once, the main line is usually the cause.

Floor Drain Backups

Water coming up through a basement floor drain needs attention right away.

Quick Fix or Bigger Problem?

Most clogs clear with a good cleaning. Some are a sign of something bigger.

A cleaning is usually enough when

  • Only one drain is slow
  • It’s the first clog in a long while
  • The cause is clear (grease, hair, wipes)
  • Every other drain works fine

It’s time to look deeper when:

  • Several drains back up at once
  • Clogs keep coming back
  • Toilets gurgle when other fixtures drain
  • You see water in the basement or soggy spots in the yard

Older Home?

Many Metro East homes built before the 1970s have clay or cast iron sewer lines. Tree roots and cracks are common in those lines, and a camera inspection is the best way to know what’s going on.

Common Drain
Questions

Still have a question?
Call 618-258-9000, 24/7.

Is it a clogged drain or a sewer line problem?

If one drain is slow, it’s usually a local clog. If several drains back up, especially the lowest ones like a basement floor drain or tub, the main line is the likely cause.

Should I use chemical drain cleaners?

We don’t recommend them. They can be hard on older pipes and often only clear part of the clog, so it comes right back.

What shouldn’t go down my drains?

Grease, coffee grounds, food scraps, and wipes, even the ones labeled flushable. In bathrooms, hair is the most common cause of slow drains.

Do you offer emergency drain cleaning?

Yes. We answer the phone 24/7. Call 618-258-9000 and we’ll give you a real arrival window, not a guess.

How much does drain cleaning cost?

It depends on which drain and how far the clog is. With flat-rate pricing, you’ll know the price up front before any work starts.

Can tree roots get into my sewer line?

Yes, especially in older clay lines. Roots find their way into small cracks and joints and grow until water can’t get through.
